Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Underground Utility Locator specializing in Natural Gas to join our team. As an Underground Utility Locator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of natural gas pipelines by accurately identifying and marking the location of underground utilities. You will work closely with utility companies, construction crews, homeowners and other stakeholders to prevent damage to underground utilities during excavation and construction activities. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various environmental conditions.
Essential Goals, Functions and Responsibilities:
- Ability to read and interpret utility maps to identify size and type of underground utilities.
- Accurately mark the location of underground utilities.
- Work after hours on call when scheduled.
- Perform work in all weather conditions.
- Receive and respond to locate tickets during normal and after hours in accordance with time requirements via computer and cell phone.
- Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark underground utilities within set accuracy limits.
- Use a shovel to expose buried utilities when necessary.
- Take pictures, video and document all information required for each locate.
- Safely operate company vehicle.
- Maintain a professional appearance and abide by company standards.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with all parties involved, including but not limited to customers, homeowners and contractors.
- Ensure proper maintenance of all equipment used.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in utility locating is a plus.
Previous experience in underground utility locating required (a focus on natural gas, is highly desirable).
Strong knowledge of utility locating equipment and technology.
Familiarity with utility maps, blueprints, and CAD drawings.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and in various weather conditions.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Willingness to travel to different job sites as needed
